Graveyard Project: Research and Inspiration

Image
For this project, I wanted to do an old, haunted, medieval graveyard with a church and a bunch of old tombstones toppling over each other. I had a fairly clear idea of what I wanted to do with this level from the start. I took inspiration from this old Jewish cemetery in Prague that has several hundred years of burials layered on top of one another in a very confined space. I also took inspiration from the recent blood moon for added spookiness. I wanted the sky and light to be red and accent points in the level (such as the church in the center or the pickups) to be green. From there I went on to the actual layout of the map. I looked at medieval cemeteries and cathedrals.
